Two P-plate drivers have been issued Immediate Suspension Notices after losing control of their vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol on Saturday (21 June).
About 10.30pm, police attended Charterisville Avenue in Conder after an 18-year-old driver doing burnouts and drag racing; lost control of his white Holden Ute on a bend, mounted the gutter, hit a letterbox and collided with a tree.
The driver of the vehicle underwent roadside breath screening and returned a positive result. The driver was then conveyed to Tuggeranong Police Station and underwent a breath analysis, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.119.
In a separate incident around midnight, police were called to Gallagher Street in Kambah where a 21-year-old driving a white Mitsubishi Lancer had turned a corner too fast, hit a light pole and continued along the street for 50 metres before colliding with a tree.
The driver from Kambah was identified and underwent a roadside breath screening, returning a positive result. She was then conveyed to Tuggeranong Police Station for breath analysis, returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.148.
Both drivers were issued with Immediate Suspension Notices and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
