If you actually step inside the Bailey’s Corner arcade from either East Row or Petrie Plaza one finds in the middle the Yum Yum Tree takeaway.
It’s decked out in yellows and browns and is a surprisingly welcoming space.
They are famous for their roast meat rolls and today I had the beef one for $8 (they also do pork).
The roasts bubble away under a heat lamp and are truly gargantuan.
The amount of meat that goes into a single roll is similarly vast. The meat exceeds the bun in volume (let alone weight).
It comes as standard with gravy and salt and pepper. On request they were happy to add mustard at no charge.
As for what it tastes like?
This is basically large slabs of meat with a minimum of packaging to take it away and season it.
If you like large slabs of meat then it is truly superb.
If that’s not your thing, well they do have a lot of other items on the menu.

Perhaps a series on civic lunchtime exercise options could be appropriate.
Dear JB
If only you had done a weigh in before you started on this lunch review thingy.
These lunch reviews of yours are like watching “Super Size Me”, really, really, really slowly.
I have had upteen thousands of the pork/beef/chicken rolls from Yum Yum tree over the years and have never been disappointed.. Pork roll with onions and apple sauce with extra crackling…mmmm..
I heartily endorse this review. I ate many a fine roll from Yum Yum – or at least, I did before my arteries filled up with pork crackling and I stopped working in Civic.
