LJ Hooker Belconnen franchise principal Dennis Vlandis has been in the real estate game long enough to know that there’s more to success than just good sales figures.

It is a 20-strong team focused on nurturing young talent (LJ Hooker Belconnen’s Luke Evans recently won the REIACT 2014 Novice Auctioneer of the Year Award) and building client relationships.

“Many agents just focus on numbers. They say ‘If we get this many listings this month, then we need to do more next month”. Our total focus is on delivering exceptional customer service ,” Vlandis says.

As an industry veteran who began his real estate career over 30 years ago, Vlandis says the real estate industry’s approach to customer service has come full circle over the past three decades.
Today, the buyer has all of the information they need at their fingertips, so it is important that agents give more time and energy to buyers than what they may have in the past. If you understand their needs and expectations, they’ll be rewarded with a great purchase.”

He says a combination of experienced and younger agents makes LJ Hooker unique.

“We have a blend of mature agents that have been on our team for between seven and 15 years, and then we have a blend of youth, like Luke, coming up too,” he says.

“Over the next 12 months we are looking to grow our property management and sales teams and bring younger people into the organisation. We’re looking for people who are interested in staying here for the medium to long term and helping them grow their careers.”

Luke Evans, also from LJ Hooker Belconnen, looks set to follow a similar career path. The REIACT 2014 Novice Auctioneer of the Year winner took out this year’s LJ Hooker International Auction Idol, where he beat competitors from over 700 offices across Australia and New Zealand. The prize is a five-day study tour to Dubai later this year. He says the best part of his job is working with clients.

“A big part of real estate is helping people to solve problems, whether that’s buying a new home, dealing with a divorce or managing a deceased estate. It’s my job to make these things easy and hassle-free,” he says.

Vlandis says that while the Canberra property market has changed significantly over the past three decades, one of the biggest shifts is happening now as demand for inner Belconnen properties close to the Town Centre increases.

“Canberra’s property market has become more like a big city market where people are willing to pay more for the value of the land rather than the building. People want to be close to employment, transport and cafes,” Vlandis says.

“Once you’ve been in Canberra for a few months you start to appreciate its smaller size, views of the countryside and open spaces. Now it also offers inner city life as well as bush capital benefits.”

Well done Luke and Dennis. It sounds like LJ Hooker are doing a great job mentoring the young people on their team.
