Simon Corbell has announced the start of a road resealing program:
“A contract to the value of $6.2 million has been awarded to Downer EDI Works for this work which will involve the resealing of national highways, arterial roads, rural roads, urban roads and municipal streets, totalling approximately 620,000 square metres of pavement.
“Road resealing in the southside of Canberra has been programmed to be completed in February 2011. The whole resealing program is expected to be complete by early April 2011.”
The major roads to be resealed as part of the program include:
– Monaro Highway
– Canberra Avenue
– Hindmarsh Drive
– Namatjira Drive
– Kingsford Smith Drive
– Federal Highway
Selected streets will also be resealed in suburbs including Kingston, Griffith, Narrabundah, Torrens, Chisholm, Monash, Wanniassa, Kambah and Rivett (on the southside) and Florey, Cook, Aranda and Watson (on the northside).
Anything he’s missed?
Two whole lanes of GDE…
and that road that heads out to the tip, off the Monaro….whatever it’s called, it’s a disgrace!

Long Gully Road, yep its not that good considering the volume of traffic.
Having said that, have you driven the Bobyan Road? Loads of fun for all the family…..
Captain RAAF said :
Why – what’s wrong with it? Short distance, overtaking lane up the hill, reasonable speed limit.

From the Monaro to the tip turn off and that bit that goes to the tip itself. It’s been awhile since I’ve been to the tip though as the cats have grown wise to the traps sinister purpose!
I assume they’ll be using the cheaper tyre-shredding material again?
I’m teaching one of my kids to ride a bike and am noticing that now when you come off you take chunks off you rather than just scraping skin.
My driveway could do with a touch up

That’s because they don’t flatten the stones down – they wait for the cars to do it. When they resealed my street last time it was about a year ago – there are still loose stones. So annoying. And they did the shittest job.
I was especially grateful to the idiotic people that floor it and fling stones all over the shop while I’m going 20km so the stones don’t chip my car. Douchebags.
Wentworth Ave could do with a touch up!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t laying more bitumen on top of a crap road just make it a double layer crap cake?

Agreed. I noticed that Kingsford Smith drive is earmarked, and I’ll be watching with interest. I notified Tim-TAMS 18 months ago about massive corrugations on the Northbound lanes over the St. Francis underpass – I hope they don’t just plan to seal over the 2″ creases in the road and expect that to suffice.
I’m also amazed that nothing has been done to fix the shambles on the city-bound lanes of the Barton Hwy alonside Gold Creek. That has been a potholed mess starting from a week after it was ripped up and hotmixed 10 years ago, and has continued deteriorating into a patchwork of craters and failed repairs.

You could of cause do something about it Mutley. I recently moved into a street that was resurfaces during last years program and there was a fair bit of excess stone lying around. I did the 13 22 81 thing and it was swept within 8 days

Well I phoned and apparently they did come to flatten the stones and sweep away the excess – they did a really shithouse job though because it doesn’t look any different.
Oh super, I get the clean tar off my car again.

Thats cause the Govmit pays the least it can on providing the service…..
You get what you pay for – if *you* want it clean, pull out a yard broom and do it yourself. Works 100% of the time, and you can sell the stones on eBay!

What is it with Wentworth Ave? It has these seams that are breaking up. The bitumen must have been laid by railway men because it almost has that clickety-click noise thing happening like a rail road.
Even given the ever increasing volume of traffic spilling over and development of the Foreshore, not much will probably happen to Wentworth until all is completed *holding breath*
They ‘resealed’ the carpark at my shops. It now has bare bits, and loose gravel all over it to skin kids’ knees.
And to add insult to injury, the orginal surface was perfect. You can see the perfect surface emerging from all the holes in the spray-on rocks as they are removed by reversing cars.
Wentworth Ave is bad – I used to think I had a flat tyre driving along there, but it is just the regular bumps in the road.

This usually indicates the old road was concrete and it’s still underneath.
