Andrew Barr has put forth word on the grandly titled “Southquay” development for the somewhat more prosaic Lake Tuggeranong:

Work is about to start on Southquay, a new mixed use development on the shores of Lake Tuggeranong, which will see the construction of up to 1,000 dwellings and more than 3,000 square metres of commercial space.

The entire urban precinct comprises 13 blocks with development on both sides of the lake, and will be built instages with the western side between Anketell Street and the lake to be constructed first to be followed by the area between the lake and Drakeford Drive.

Sites that have frontage to Anketell Street will allow for development of 6-8 storeys, with allowance for three towers of a maximum of 12 storeys. Development will step down to 2-4 storeys at the lake’s edge in order to maximise lake views and retain appropriate scale.

Blocks expected to accommodate the first 300 dwellings are anticipated to be released by mid 2014 with the remaining sites on the western side to be released over the following three financial years.

I think this the first time in many a year the council has been interested in having any money come into tuggeranong? The last time they spent any money down south it was on the roundabout extension for drakeford drive/isabella drive (complete with a traffic light).

The average speed camera.

At least it was only average, given the price I’d hate too see how much a good or excellent speed camera cost.

And if they incorporated a rail hub. Increased thr maximum height to 20 stories instead of wasting the land near the lake, might actually build more of a lake frontage.

What rail hub?
Canberras Light Rail is only for the special people north of the lake.

My apologies im still working out this class system.

I guess having a sprawling appartments solves the urban sprawl problem.
