The ABC has word that the New Years Deathcap Feast has now claimed two lives.

Two people have died after eating death cap mushrooms at a New Year’s Eve dinner party in Canberra.

The deaths were confirmed by a spokesman for Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital this morning.

The victims were waiting for liver transplants after eating the fungus.

And people worry about what teenagers get up to.

I’ll back Tomo on this one, though I don’t know the people. This is miserably sad for so many reasons – they were new in this country and unfamiliar with risks. They were doing something we all do, and eating with friends at a time of the year when we reflect on things. Their families must be heartbroken, and they deserve support, not jokes. Please think of how your comments would look if read to a grieving relative who may not understand the Australian penchant for gallows humour.

These are my friends – THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE! They come from another country and made the deadly assumption regarding them looking like edible ones from their home country. For this they have paid with their lives in less than 72 hours. This is a tragic accident that will affect dozens of family and friends not to mention 2 kids that are 7 and 11 years old that now don’t have a father. It happened as an innocent dinner with friends and I am bereaved to have lost 2 close friends that loved life to the full. RIP Wo men yong yuan xiang ni xiong di…

It’s not the worst dinner party ever.

One time I was unwittingly coralled into a dinner party that turned out to be a gathering of left-wing, feminist, ANU art-student vegan wine wankers.

Death by mushroom would have been sweet release.

Very good. What a great time to joke.

Condolences to those affected by the loss of two lives.

Little tip for the funghi lovers – If it doesn’t turn blue, it’s not for you.

Do not eat things that grow in your backyard unless you planted them yourself.

That would be a homocide; the current deaths are funghicide.

Funghicide is something that kills fungus. Not a fungus that kills things.

You mean “fungicide”, I said “funghicide”, FUNGHI-CIDE……..oh, forget it!

..badoom…tish !..

My condolences to the families of these unfortunates.

The ACT Gov has announced the introduction of speed cameras to the ACT Forests where mushrooms grow.

That is pedantry, up with which I shall not put.

“worst dinner party ever”?

Perhaps, but at least it wasn’t intentional, like the other one in 1997.

Well that one only took the one life.

Fark…….

Holy hell that is bad. Was it the guests and/or the host? If its just the guests is this manslaughter?
