Some of you may have noticed that 2CC are announcing each hour before the news that they have been on air for 30 years…but they haven’t given the actual date of anniversary.

Just wondering, how old are the other stations in Canberra?

Was that as a presenter (or a technical person) Esquire ?

I know my dad used to work at 2CA in the 70’s.

2CA (which now just plays “golden oldies” all the time) was the first Radio Station in Canberra.
2CC are a mob of “johnny come latelys ” !

Must be the about the same age Thumper… and I recall that the ratings wars between 2CA and 2CC were quite the bitter struggles. Then came Stereo AM and then FM. I also recall that in the sleepy little town of Cooma way back in the 60’s, that when the radio (2XL as it was then) went off air at midnight they used to play Rock Around The Clock, and not God Save The Queen (as they were supposed too).

That reminds me, I have found an answer to the opening date of 2CC, 31 October 1975.

Humbug!

AM talk radio is exciting, infomative and interesting (OK, the exciting might be an exageration)…I guess it is a matter of choice, but I like it!

2CA must surely come close to being the oldest station in Canberra?

Samuel

only to those who listen to it

Isn’t AM talkback radio irrelevant and just plain nonsense?

2CA commenced transmission in 1931 (from a shop in Kingston ).

2CY (Radio National ) commenced transmissions from Gungahlin in 1938.
