Copa says sorry

I too want more restaurants like this in Canberra and have been following the Facebook page carefully. Many reports of raw chicken being served.
All it takes is one bite or a cross contamination of meats.

Too little – and way too late. Perhaps when the media showed up outside the restaurant when it first happened, the owner could have made some kind of apology then. Instead, he became abusive and slapped the camera and sound men around. I will boycott the Copa on those grounds alone.

If the issue was the eggs from the supplier then wouldn’t lots of other businesses have been affected as well ?

You do realise that eggs can be infected with salmonella before they ever arrive at a restaurant? That proper handling procedures begin well before the restaurant ever gets their hands on them, and if someone further down the chain hasn’t done the right thing that they’re basically handing over a ticking time bomb?

it is the restaurant’s responsibility to ensure that the food they are serving and getting paid for is safe. whether they made the mayo or whether the eggs were dodgy is irrelevant. they served it.

Yes, ultimately it is the restaurant’s responsibility. However your comment ‘it’s poor food safety’ suggests that the restaurant has been negligent in its responsibilities, that they’ve not followed proper food handling practices. So if The Copa had followed correct food handling procedures, and this turns out to be the fault of a dodgy batch of eggs, what do you suggest they do beyond what they’ve already done? You say ‘take responsibility’ – well they’re not making their own mayo from raw egg any more. You say ‘apologise’ – I’m not sure how much more of an apology you’re after, their statement sounds like an apology to me. You say ‘admit that you screwed up’ – well, what if they didn’t? What if their only crime was to make their own mayo?

I really hope that ultimately, it’s shown that The Copa didn’t make a heap of people sick through their own negligence, that they’re not run out of business for errors they didn’t make. I want restaurants like this in Canberra, I want variety like this. The baying for blood coming out of this incident is pretty sad to see.

Now I hope I don’t live to eat my words…

Ben Aulich is taking the case? That’ll be interesting, I used to work with him when he was at MV, he’s a very talented litigator. Exactly the kind of lawyer everyone hopes to have when they’re in trouble.
