Dumping on private property advice

Oddly enough, dumping a small uteload of stuff is as low as $12. Free if it’s just recyclables and electronics. The biggest problem I had with going to the tip was figuring out what to do and where to go.

First, as you turn on Mugge Way toward the tip there’s a big sign saying recycling management centre to the right. This would be a great place to put a sign saying tip on the left. And it should say “tip” not resource reeducation or refuse mismanagement. Immigrants know what a tip is, they aren’t so clear on the Fred Durst Society for Humanities and Arts.

So when you get to the tip there’s a sign saying recycling this way and e-waste that way but nothing about rubbish. And when you finally get to where you’re supposed to take rubbish, there’s a gate marked “gate closed” even when it’s not.

According to the guys that work there, this small lack of clear signage encourages people to basically just drive out and dump nearby. A little public education about how cheap the tip is might also discourage dumpers.

I identified a dumper on a construction site once (actually, more than once but this one time) I sent him a sternly-worded letter on a law-firm’s letterhead.
The poor bugger rang, abjectly apologetic and desperate to make good on his mess and not be reported to the police.

you should have temporary fencing up. A lot cheaper than paying for illegal dumpers tip fees. Comercial waste fees are massive $130 a ton, better off trailering it to the tip your self .

Your neighbours are poo and will never be anything else. Clean it up, sell up and get the hell outta there before anything worse happens!!

I suggest photographing them in the act, getting the rego details of their vehicles and publicly shaming them like no one has been shamed before.

Put up flyers all over Canberra with clear close images of them in the act stating that they are a “Rapist of the envioronment” but keep the “of the envioronment” part in a smaller different font. Dumping of garbage illegally is environmental rape plain and simple.

If it is kids then find out who the parents are and shame them as well.

I would be interested to see what type of response would occur.

Only way would be to set up cameras and catch them in the act. You could put up signs stating it’s private property and threaten legal action but these cowards act under night fall so the signs wouldn’t stop them.

Is the property fenced? That would be the best place to start. Make it difficult for people to access it.
