Update: Duncan answered his phone, rang me back, made a time, turned up, and was professional. The other one recommended, Dimension, invited contact via their website, but I’ve heard nothing. I have just sent a text to the 3rd recommendation, inviting him to ring on a break.

After retiring I worked part-time in child care for a couple of years, initially on $19 an hour and then $20 an hour after it was topped up by the government. I did get superannuation, but it was almost all eaten up by superannuation insurance which is the default and which I didn’t know about till too late, so I have no superannuation from this. I admit I should have checked, but it was so little I was slack. Being retired with other superannuation, I had no use for this insurance at all, so all it did was take away the little money I would have got from this superannuation. So my salary from this job ended up being $19/$20 an hour – no more, as I didn’t receive the superannuation.

I should have said this was casual rates (no holiday or sick leave), so this hourly rate was higher than for workers who get sick and holiday leave.
