Best of Canberra - Hole-in-the-wall cafe

It’s a pretty well known fact that Canberra has more than its fair share of cafes. Everyday I join the rest of Canberra’s coffee lovers (and let’s face it, that’s most people) in the line at my local cafe to grab a takeaway caffeine fix before work or at morning tea, or sometimes even both.

This week I’m on the lookout for something a bit more specific and maybe a little niche – Canberra’s best hole-in-the-wall cafe. I’m talking about the small cafes you can find dotted around town, they might have a few small tables, they might not, but most of their trade is takeaway and the food they have on offer is limited, simple and easy.

So hit me up with your recommendations – where’s your favourite hole-in-the-wall cafe?

To vote, let me know your favourite hole-in-the-wall cafe in the comments below. I’ll try the two most popular places and let you know the verdict in next Monday’s Taste Off article.

Da Rosario next to Mezzalira in the London Building. Owned by the same family that own Italian and Sons, Mezzalira etc. Best coffee and good Italian fast food. Quick and friendly service. What more could you want.

Melbourne Building, entry on London Circuit, maybe?

No, I think RiotACT is just trying to scam a tax-payer funded flight to England. Y’know, before the whole ‘crackdown on entitlements’ thing kicks in…

Plus one for Nookie!

I don’t know if I would have considered Kindle ‘Hole in the wall’ before seeing other comments, however I guess it is somewhat difficult to find if you don’t know it’s there.

I don’t know if they still sell them but the Italian Hot Chocolates were pretty good and cheap.

i’ll add a vote for kindle; but i’m keen to hear of these others…

Don’t Google ‘hole in the wall cafe’ like I did. It did not return the results I was expecting!

I’ve had some good stuff from Kindle, little bit expensive to have everyday but pulled pork rolls were good

Oooh I love Kindle! Another vote here!

100% Vote for ‘Nookie’ in Garema place directly next to Sizzle Bento. It’s literally a hole in the wall with a couple of really cute seats on some fake grass with some crochet blankets, and lots of bright colours! Need I say more?… well I will; they have maple bacon, and earl grey donuts!!!! ;D
Great Coffee too.

Two Hands in the city! Not sure if it qualifies as a true hole in the wall joint, but it gets my vote anyway.

I wouldn’t class Loading Zone as a hole in the wall, as there are lots of tables and its always going gang busters with the eat in crowd.

I like the tiny hole in the wall place near Mezzalira but I can’t remember its name!! It is run by the Mezz crew and they make delicious coffee and sandwich things.

I thought Tuck Shop in Civic was pretty good when I reviewed it for Cheap Eats. I have heard Loading Zone is good too and I think that’s a hole-in-the-wall type set up.
