Cheap Eats - Double Drummer (Barton)

I’ve never had a bad meal at Double Drummer – good range and pretty reasonable prices/serving sizes.

Do agree that it’s very noisy in there though. If I’m lunching with friends I tend to go elsewhere. It’s great for lone wolf/takeaway lunches though.

I’ve never had a bad sandwich, roll, wrap or salad from here. If you like melt-in-your mouth corned beef coupled with sauerkraut on rye then you can’t go past their Reuben. I haven’t tried any of the more substantial or hot dishes but they all seem to look great.

It’s licensed as well and is very popular with the afternoon public service lunch crowd who seem to not be required to go back to work after Friday lunch.

I used to work nearby and stopped bringing in my lunch as the food there was so good. I would eat their roast rolls of pulled beef or pulled pork drowned in gravy at least twice a week. (*pulled in the sense that they are traditional roasts that have been shredded, not a spicy pulled meat.) Their chips are delicious too. While the roast rolls were a daily staple, it was nice to see a variety in hot pasta dishes as well as veggie dishes.

I worked in the area over winter and the soups were amazing as well.

On the occasion I didn’t feel like hot food, the pre-made rolls were amazing. Although as a regular salad eater, I honestly don’t think I ever had a salad unless it was on the side of my roast rolls.

I can believe someone only having a salad. Not everyone wants chips and meat for lunch. Far too heavy. In fact, the salad here looks more pasta than salad. I would prefer more actual salad. My main meal is at night. But I guess if your main meal is at lunchtime and you eat lightly at night, the heavier meals would be more justified.
