Driving upto Sydney on Saturday arvo there were some big puddles forming on lake George. It looked strange!!!

Well, my kids have never seen it rain continuously for two days in a row before and my oldest is six.

I was envious last weekend while in Sydney and just sat on the balcony watching the rain, and hoped we were getting this rain plus the farmers, we finally got it, just love watching the rain

After seeing Jazz’s pics of Scrivener I took the young fella down and it was a deadset traffic jam with everyone else in Canberra down there having a geek.

We walked across the bridge to take a look from above and saw a TAMS notification sticky taped to the railing in the middle advising not to inhale the mist due to blue green algae.
By the time you had read it you would’ve already taken in several lungfuls…

I drove down Majura road at about 12.30 and it was flooded in two places. It was easily passible then (with care), but the current across the road in one spot was quite strong

If the levels got any higher, people with no experience of water crossings (ie…most Canberra drivers) could have quite easily come to grief.

Probably only about 30-50cm deep at that time, but I was amazed at the idiots trying to motor through it at 80k+ as if there was nothing there.

Well, the sun is out and looks like the end of all that rain. Forecast says we are in for more though. Who believes them? My backyard is a pile of sloshy, sludgy mud, and the courtyard is flooded.

What an absolute joy watching the little one slosh around in the water, only to create a trail of mud with her pink crocs all the way to the loo (that’s our loo, not Southlands).

When I came home via Coppins Crossing, there was a TAMS Worker watching the river height. So a heads up for tonight or tomorrow. But the main issue is that tree trunks are bashing up against the crossing & making the river higher then what it really is.

Besides a 10% of Canberra, WIN News were also filming the middle gate of Scrivener Dam being down.

The rain is great, just don’t appreciate my garage flooding…yet again…

while I agree we needed the rain I wanted to go to the camping show! we tried, drove to qbn, but it got heavier. normally I would grin and bear it, but with a 3 month old and a 4 year old in tow, we thought better of it.

and why is it when its NOT raining, there are a plethora of raincoats for kids at the shops, but then when you need them, you cant find one!!!

(eventually found one at target on special too!)

The roads around Canberra are big mess; the SES are advising people to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary, and having just tackled the trip to work – I would have to agree with them (one of the many times that I am glad to drive a four wheel drive).

I had planned to garden the weekend away…but just standing in the garage and watching puddles forming in the garden in all the right places is just as rewarding…puddles, we haven’t had puddles for ever!!

The gumboots are getting a workout and jumping puddles with the four year old is a treat. The water tank is full to the brim and the buckets are full. Hearing the rain on the carport roof is calming. The oven is getting a workout as there’s not much else to do but bake.

I love rain.

According to my weather station, 73mm has fallen this weekend as at 9am Sunday with no sign of it letting up. By comparison, our entire rainfall last year was 398mm.

We have’t had this sort of rain for years! I had to drain my pool this morning as it has risen 1.5 inches since Friday and was threatening to overflow today – maybe I can contribute to the stormwater system some more tonight? Mind you it always feels so wasteful draining the water, I wish I could just put it somewhere safe for when it gets hot and I need to top it up.
