I was in the servo the other day and the attendant caught some kids stealing chocolates. It was quite funny when he asked them to leave and the girl screamed “why, is it the colour of my skin” The attendant quickly replied “No it’s cause you’re stealing stuff”

Actually there is more to the divide than you realise, during the build up to the olympics many troublesome families were relocated (psuedo-gentrification)from Sydney to places like Isabella Plains and such. With that the crime rate soared at the time and we are now used to it and accept it as daily life.

I’ll take your accusation of villifying and vindicate it.

As a former employee of SOCOG during the planning and staging of the Sydney Olympics I can categorically say that NO “troublesome families” were relocated to Isabella Plains or any other part of Canberra. The few relocations that happened were to the Blue Mountains and Central Coast/Newcastle. Canberra was simply too far away and it would have been exceedingly difficult having to deal with interstate governments and bureaucrats.

Southside Canberra was not the only place that they were relocated to, it happened all over the country.

As for your allegations about relocating people to Isabella Plains, show me where I can find verification of this and I might believe you. Sounds like a crock to me.

I have a lovely, peaceful life in Chisholm, probably very similar to those of you who reside in such common or garden suburbs like Melba, Cook or Scullin. I have never been burgled or had my car nicked -there are a few too many year 12 parties in November, sure, and I now hate cracker night (since moving back to Canberra in 1999 and losing a letterbox or two) but I can live with that – it’s part of the statistical bulge I mentioned in my previous post.

I am just so sick of being steretoyped by ignorants. For example, if you think of Kambah as povvie, you obviously have no idea -have you SEEN the houses at Gleneagles?

I also get really really annoyed at the media when they label a school in incidents such as these. If the incident had occurred at Jamison, for instance, would the location have been called ‘the school car park’ (given its location adjacent to Canberra High)? It seems to me that most journalists have no idea about Tuggeranong either, given that they all work at (and probably reside near) Dickson, Watson, Mitchell etc. And don’t get me started on politicians.

I called it that because there always seems to be schoolyard stabbings up there and it rhymes, I would have used Brisbane in the title but it is hard to alliterate. Personally I think that it is BS when folks use knives.

Try a spoon, it takes more skill and it is blunt so it hurts more.

I had no idea I moved to a country that was similar to China.
Who decided what was troublesome and who paid for the move? Was it whole families? People with children I suppose.

So Civic? Is Civic it’s own or does it belong to the North or South.
Seems I always hear of things happening down there around the clubs.
The whole north south thing is silly in my eyes.

I am a Canberran born and bred… but have recently moved across the boarder to Queanbeyan (a nice part of Queanbeyan) and I am quite enjoying myself there.
Queanbeyan gets it’s fair share of knocks on this website, but am I arcing up?
Hell no… it’s a joke… build a bridge.

And yeah… there are parts of Queanbeyan.
You Canberrans stick to the main street, so we can enjoy the real country town behind the slovenly facade ;p

Mine was submitted yesterday after I’d had a walk around the Hyperdome in my lunchbreak, where I overheard my gossip from the 3pm influx of teens.
I heard “Some student stabbed a guy over drugs”, “Some druggo stabbed a student”, and “Some guys stabbed a student’s boyfriend”.
I assumed students would know if students were stabbing other students.

But there’s more coverage from the Crimes and Louis Andrews mentioning (assuming the pair ‘assisting with enquiries’ are perpetrators) that neither stabber or stabbee were students, just “related to students”.
It also looks like it was the carpark shared with the library, but which is primarily used by students.

However, having lived for my first two decades in and around Tuggeranong, I submit that Wanniassa\Gowrie\Monash\Isabella Palins currently have greater-than-normal bogan density, as well as the teen bulge due to being the Nappy Valley of yesteryear, but Lanyon has some exceptional social issues of its own.
(But I have no idea how or why this is a Sydney-style of stabbing, unless PBO is expert in schoolyard stabbing methods…)

Apparently so, they dance differently in Melbourne (Melbourne Shuffle), so why not stab differently? Sydney they stab upper body so why wouldnt Melbournians (Melbourne Stab Shuffle?) stab the lower part? We could call it Mexican style.

All of the tags and references to ‘schoolyard stabbings’ seem a little misleading since the police are saying that the victim was not a student at Erindale.

The carpark is probably the one that is shared by the public library and health club and shopping centre users. I understand the offender is not a student. Seems unfair to implicate the school given this info . . .

“ACT Policing is investigating a stabbing in a car park outside a South Canberra College which occurred about 1pm today (March 9).

Initial enquiries reveal that this incident appears to be a targeted attack and was not within the school grounds. No other injuries or incidents have been reported to police from the school today.

So the carpark is not part of school grounds.

Well maybe this kid should go learn self defense so in future this wont happen.
