Faces of Canberra - Harry Rose

Each week Rachel Moore is on the hunt to find out what makes Canberra special to all the wonderful folks who live here.

Harry Rose is a fifth generation farmer’s son from the Kybeyan Valley, dedicated family man and local artisan jeweller producing some of the world’s most special and unique pieces.

From an early age, Harry was a gifted metal work student and despite having a crack at a few trades, including farming, it was on the first day of his four-year apprenticeship at a local Canberra jeweller where Harry found his passion.

Yearning to immerse himself in the art form, Harry travelled to the United Kingdom where he was successful in gaining a position at David Marshall London. In the UK, Harry worked with some of the most amazing gems, materials and diamonds in the world, creating luxury jewellery for firms such as Boodles and De Beers. Rarely is it about the size of the stone for Harry and more about the design process and looks on folks faces when revealing their unique pieces upon completion. Whilst working as a Production Manager for David Marshall London, the firm won the prestigious UK Luxury Jeweller of the Year Award.

Harry’s passion for design and the creative process is a rare gift Canberra is lucky to have. Harry’s creative mind sees people’s intentions, love and emotions, capturing this with his beautiful designs. Harry’s pieces are a mirror of this insight transformed into an externalisation of observation of his customer’s desires with the finished results being pieces of wearable sui generis art.
