Former ABC Canberra presenter Genevieve Jacobs has launched a new podcast series in conjunction with BAL Lawyers.

The voice of Genevieve Jacobs is once again available to your ears through a new podcast series that explores one of Canberra’s hottest topics.

During her decade of service to the ACT through ABC Radio, Genevieve built a reputation for thoughtful conversation that made complex matters easy to understand and relevant to a wide audience.

The inspiration for Genevieve’s new podcast springs from The HR Breakfast Club which has been running since October 2016.

“The idea is to take that monthly get together a step further and share the wisdom and experience that is building around this group further afield,” Genevieve says.

Established by BAL Lawyers as a meeting place for professionals working in Human Resources, The HR Breakfast Club and its new podcast offspring flesh out topical HR issues in a warm and welcoming way.

“I don’t think there is anybody else in Australia doing a podcast like this,” Genevieve says.

“The idea is to take a range of workplace issues and provide some real-world advice and perspective from informed voices.”

Topics covered so far or on the drawing board include:

  • Becoming a high-performance organisation
  • Sexual harassment
  • Workplace culture and rights
  • Unfair dismissal
  • Bullying
  • What women want
  • Vaccinations and drug and alcohol testing in the workplace

“The very first one we did was about unfair dismissal,” laughs Genevieve thinking of her own redundancy from the ABC.

“We try and make it something that gives the average HR person a head start on the issues they might face, something that not only supports them in their work but also as a human being.”

Each podcast runs about 3o minutes and is designed to fit in around your daily commute.

“More and more I’d love people to suggest topics and issues we can investigate and help them with,” Genevieve says.

“We usually have a couple of talking heads, one who is across the legal and regulatory framework and then we’ll have someone with some practical HR experience who can speak to how the issue might play out and the twists and turns they have witnessed.

“The pitfalls, the good ideas, the short circuits, and the kind of issues that might be hidden.”

The HR Breakfast Club hosted by BAL Lawyers happens on the third Friday of each month. Genevieve Jacobs, sitting at the front of the table in black, says real world perspectives are shared that flow into her new podcast series.

Genevieve accepts that people might raise an eyebrow at the thought of a podcast about HR, but believes listeners will be captivated by the real world, personal reflections and wisdom of the experts she gathers.

“I love having conversations with people and understanding what makes them tick professionally and personally,” she says.

“My job is to craft a story and craft a conversation that hits all the important points so that the listener gets value and can digest the information; this is down to earth, accessible, and human.”

The HR Breakfast Club Podcast is ready for you to listen to now, and the invitation is there for you to join the monthly Canberra get together hosted by BAL Lawyers.
