
A man is in hospital and an investigation is underway after a police gun was fired in the early hours of Saturday (September 15).
Just before 4 am, officers from Monaro Police District were called to Monaro Street, Queanbeyan following reports a man was armed with a firearm and shots were being fired.
On arrival, officers established a perimeter before locating the man at the BP service station on Lowe Street.
After a number of shots were allegedly fired towards officers, the man was shot by police.
Officers treated him at the scene until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.
Police say there have been no reports of any injuries to the public or police, and the alleged offender is in Canberra Hospital.
A Critical Incident Team will now investigate all the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of the police firearm. That investigation will be subject to independent review.
