Rugby League is for the workers, not of the workers

Yesterday we reported on the outrage amongst business leaders and their Liberal lackeys that a community gathering in the form of the Raiders game included political views they disagree with, in support of the only organisation willing to pay to sponsor the team, the CFMEU.

Today the Canberra Times informs us that the Murdoch owned National Rugby League has expressed its displeasure with the Raiders, who have promised it won’t happen again.

It was probably unwise to unleash this tactic while Rupert was in the country.

In any event the talk of “no political messages at community events” makes it very clear that the bread and circuses are intended to quieten the masses, not rev them up.

We can only hope that exposure to contrary views didn’t do lasting damage to local libs, used to only hearing things they agree with.

Half-time football entertainment sucks, how about more dance girls or a rock band but nothing political. Now is not the time to upset Murdoch he could mothball all three fractured oval ball derivatives with a bit of a media tycoon masterstroke – one billion tv deal and unlimited newspaper coverage for soccer.
Hope I am wrong.

Given rugby league was borne out of an ïndustrial” dispute its kind of appropriate that the Raiders hosted the rally. Good luck to them for actually reflecting the views of the majority of their members.

the game heard from the corporate boxes is a different one to what you get in the terraces

vg: “adjudged well so by the booing crowd at the game”

I was at the game and I didn’t hear any booing when the CFMEU thing went down – all I heard was the usual half-time disinterested chatter. I did hear a news report later that claimed there was booing though. Interesting…

It was at half time – when the average punter is out the back of the stand having a leak, or lining up to buy a rats coffin, or having a fag and a yarn with their mates.

Its just like any other half time Raiders promotion – only the desperates took any notice of it…

Indeed, I was thinking how counter-productive this stuff can be.

The CFMEU should pay to get Kevin his speaking gig there, it’d be work 5,000 memberships in a minute.

BTW – the days of unions running things are almost at an end, thankfully.

Perhaps (and is this is just one revolutionary’s idea) we could go to the footy and watch…footy! And not have every hardline wanker trying to push their own agenda.
The reality is that some people like unions, some don’t. Most people base that thought on how they grew up and what work they do. Most people don’t change their minds because of some hardliner pushing it on them.

Aww kimba, once again the only means you have to make your point is to put words in my mouth.

I don’t care who speaks at the Raiders, i’ve still got these silly ideas of wanting to live in a free country where lots of differing views can be freely expressed in lots of different places.

I’d love to see Kevin Andrews address the crowd at Canberra stadium.

I recall when people like the BLF et al used to ‘run’ the country from their clique in Pentridge Prison…..most of them there through the attacks they perpetuated on their ‘members’.

Some people think Greg Combet is a complete wanker. I would rather have the people that were elected run this country rather than those like Combet and his cronies that historically held it to ransom in places like waterfronts and building sites.

Nothing more than a dying movement grasping at straws, adjudged well so by the booing crowd at the game

I could just imagine the uproar from people like johnboy if Kevin Andrews was invited to a Canberra Raiders match to explain the Government’s workchoices.

So much hypocrisy!

the people who complain about this sort of thing are complete wankers, in my opinion.

As Greg Combet said yesterday “I recall we used to run the country, and it would not be bad if we did again”. Word, Greg, word.

My experience is that if they hear things that they don’t expect, their brains simply reset for a while.

It’s like water off a ducks back.
