ACT federal election candidates will line up on Sunday 5 May to meet voters at a Politics in the Pub forum organised by the Inner South Canberra Community Council.
The event, hosted by Parliamentary Press Gallery journalist Malcolm Farr, has so far attracted a good field of candidates for the redistributed seat of Canberra and the Senate, although sitting Senator Zed Seselja is conspicuous by his absence.
The main candidates vying in Canberra – the Liberals’ Mina Zaki, Labor’s Alicia Payne, and the Greens’ Tim Hollo – will be joined by the Australian Progressives’ Robert Knight and Independent Tim Bohm.
The Senate candidates confirmed are Labor’s Katy Gallagher and Nancy Waites, the Greens’ Penny Kyburz, and Independents Anthony Pesec and Gary Kent.
The event will start at 4 pm at Eastlake Football Club with an informal information session and “one-on-one” chats with candidates followed by brief speeches from the candidates at 4:30 pm.
At 5:15 pm there will be Q & A session, including questions from the floor, with the event closing at 6 pm.
Woden Community Council held its meet the candidates event on Wednesday night, while Tuggeranong (Bean) will hold its forum on 7 May at Vikings from 7:30 pm as part of its usual meeting and Gungahlin (Fenner) will do the same at Eastlake Gungahlin on 8 May from 6:30 pm.
