A man who crashed his car near Lake George this afternoon (May 25) then allegedly stole the car of a woman who stopped to help him.
Police have arrested the man who they said stole a black Toyota Aurion from a ‘Good Samaritan’ who was among the passing motorists who had stopped to help him.
NSW Police report that just before 3.30 pm today (Saturday, May 25) a Toyota Camry crashed into trees on the Federal Highway, about 10 km north of Bywong.
“Police have been told the sole occupant – a 29-year-old man – was assisted by passing motorists, before he stole one of their vehicles, a black Toyota Aurion, and drove away,” NSW Police said in a statement.
Police said that officers from The Hume Police District were notified and a short time later the Toyota was observed by officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command travelling on the Federal Highway at Wollogorang, southwest of Goulburn.
They pursued the vehicle and stopped it at about 4.45 pm.
Police said that the driver was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.
