The end of October sees a range of artist studios and workshops, as well as permanent galleries, open for the 13th annual Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail.

Last weekend Queanbeyan and Bungendore took their turn; this weekend the doors to studios and galleries in Braidwood will be open.

Across the region, 32 artist studios and workshops are open, showcasing the range and depth of artistic talent in the local community.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has created a useful online map that pinpoints all the participating studios. The web page also provides downloadable copies of the 2019 Arts Trail booklets which profile all participating venues.

The $500 Emerging Artist Award went to Holly Treadaway for her drawing on paper, titled ‘Vickie’, and The Hive Studio Exhibition Award (valued up to $1500) was won by Patrick Morison for his painting, ‘Sweetheart’.

This years’ guest judges were Susan Foxlee, co-owner and director of Suki & Hugh Gallery in Bungendore; Alex Asch, a practising artist whose work is in corporate collections in Australia, the US, the UK and the Netherlands; and Maggie Hickey, President of BRAG – Braidwood Regional Art Gallery.

Helen and Simon Ferguson of the Queanbeyan Hive judged the Hive Exhibition Award.

The judges’ decisions were unanimous, looking to award works that demonstrated ‘risk-taking’ and deviated from the norm be that in subject, media or technique.

While you are at The Q, vote in the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced on 31 October. The exhibition continues until 2 November. The gallery is open weekdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Hard copy Arts Trail Booklets are available from The Q, the Queanbeyan Visitors Centre and Council’s libraries, or click HERE to download.

The covers for this year’s booklets feature the work of local artists Harriet Schwarzrock and Jack Featherstone with Jack’s painting ‘Mist Bow Over Gillamatong’ appearing on the Braidwood cover and Harriet’s glasswork 4 a common thread’ on the Queanbeyan-Bungendore cover.

See you on the art trail!
