Vale: the quality buffet in Canberra

For the love of Pete – or more accurately for the love of food – can anyone tell me where I can find a good quality buffet dinner in Canberra these days? The Hyatt, Redsalt, Rydges etc. no longer do it, or don’t do it until February.

I’m taking a small group of people out for dinner this weekend and need to find a wide assortment of nice food that will fill their bellies.

I guess degustation might be my only option? Any (Northside) recommendations for either a buffet or degustation would be very much welcomed.

If you want a buffet go to a club. If you want good food order from a menu.

There are some GREAT buffets in Vegas !

Had work Xmas lunch at the Rubicon. It was fixed price, bit of everything sort of meal. Heaps of food and high quality. Cost $38 per head. Don’t know how many you need but they have a website.

I echo the Turkish recommendations, and both establishments. The banquets at the Pide House at Jammo are generous, tasty and you’ll have leftovers. They have dusty plants and nice 70s carpet, also.

The Turkish Delight in Belconnen has been there for ever, and it’s reliable and good nosh.

Two words … Oxy Moron

are your guests arriving straight from 1979?
I can only suggest finding a wedding or party somewhere and gatecrashing.

I called the Hyatt yesterday. No go. Otherwise, it would have been ideal.

My Mate told me he took his wife to the Hyatt Seafood Buffet last week.

You didn’t say if she’s staying or divorcing.

Quality and buffet in the same sentence; are you taking the piss?

there are a few good turkish places about, the Pide House in Jamison is usually quite busy, but I’d recommend Turkish Delight on Weedon Cl in Belco. Small, family run and the banquet option is great. No-one will leave hungry.

Thanks for the suggestions. Turkish is a good option. Asian is not an option (unfortunatley).

I don’t expect it to be top quality, but willing to pay upto $60+pp.

Banquet menu at an Asian restaurant? Or go turkish and be stuffed

Apart from the Family Slops Trough Food Court in Dickson, no other buffet springs to mind. A quick look at the Rydges lakeside website leads me to believe that they no longer do the seafood buffet.

Are you after good food, or just large quantities? Yum Cha might be an option and there are plenty of those around Belconnen and Dickson.

Degustation and buffet are too wildly different beasts. Degustation is incredibly dainty, intricate chef show-off food, and I don’t think you get a choice of what you get either. You get what you’re given.

Buffet is the opposite end of the food spectrum, more about quantity than quality. I’ve never had a really good buffet meal, sad to say.

If you’re after a wide choice, maybe a restaurant with a wide menu style would be better?
