Zen Yai’s been a bit of an institution on London Circuit for some time now with its flambouyant Thai fitout.
They also have a poster board cunningly advertising lunches “from $9”.
If one enquires at the counter the special takeaway lunch menu is produced and it has a handful of $9 dishes and a lot more for around $13.
How could I go past something called “Kow Pad Ka Pow”?
It took around 10 minutes to prepare, which they warned me of so I went for a little walk.
When I got it back to the office the first thing that struck on opening it was the delicious smell of BBQ Pork. The meat in this has been grilled before being fried in with the rice.
There were a smattering of beans in there as well as the inevitable slices of onion.
But the most overwhelming thing was the taste of black pepper.
I mean if you don’t really like the taste of black pepper this is not the dish for you.
But it’s certainly got some “Ka Pow”.
