Last month we reported on the fire in Pialligo which took out the children’s cooking school “Kids Pantry“.
They now report that they’re re-opening with assitance from the St Peter and Paul school in Garran.
It’s been a tough time for founder Theresa Bradaric. The venture was only months old but was already attracting incredible interest, with cooking parties booked months ahead and school holiday programs
filled to capacity.“We were obviously devastated to see our dream literally go up in smoke, ” she said.
“But the overwhelming support we received from the Canberra community kept us going. And then we received a truly extraordinary phone call.”
Sts. Peter and Paul Primary School in Garran, a Catholic school with a purpose built, state-of-the-art children’s kitchen and environment education centre, situated alongside a Kitchen Garden maintained by students, contacted Theresa with an offer to use their facilities.
In what appears a natural alignment of philosophies between Kids Pantry and the school, Sts. Peter and Paul’s offers a program of pleasurable food education, as part of its Environmental Studies curriculum, to all its students from Kindergarten to Year 6, aiming to positively influence children’s food choices in ways that have not been tried before.
They’re offering after school and Saturday classes.
