Garbage smell in Tuggeranong?

Has anyone else noticed the rancid garbage smell (not unlike going past the tip on a hot day) smell that has enveloped eastern Tuggeranong? (Fadden, Gowrie, Macarthur, Monash, even down to Isabella Plains) That’s where I have noticed it in my daily travels. (home/daycare/work). It also often smells like gas (methane?) or a sewer type smell.

Any ideas what it could be? I thought it might be the tip at Mugga blowing over the hill, its been pretty consistent since beginning of February.

And yes, go on all you wisearses who want to have a go about Tuggeranong and garbage… knock yourself out.

It’s on again.
The smell will be around for 4 – 6 weeks as garbage is excavated and relocated for some undisclosed reason.
While this is happening the exposed garbage under excavation will not be covered with soil so prepare for a “stinking hot” Christmas in the valley.
I am copping both morning and evening now but the rain seems to help.
Canberra/Queanbeyan is probably the only metropolis in Australia which has its garbage tip (Resource Management Centre for the PC minded) in the geographical centre of its boundaries.
Great planning at work.

Just to confirm that was already known a week ago:

It is Tuggeranong. The whole place is a festering tip.

Oh, and the northside smells rosy…incase you were wondering.

Belconnen has far more sewer vents stinking out the suburbs, Tuggeranong gets the tip.

Reports like this can only do wonders for Real Estate prices in these suburbs – Come live in Macarthur, right next to the picturesque new crematorium with wafting eau de garbage.

Maybe something like that man who could feel pain anywhere on his body that he poked himself.

All it was was a sore finger…

Yep, we’re sending our last few trashy problems your way. Enjoy!

(Unfortunately we’ve run out of crap for your lake)

It’s just the wind blowing the smell from Queanbeyan. It will hopefully disapate in a few days.

It was reported on the radio the other day that it was indeed coming from the tip. All the rain the past few months, has unsurprisingly made the rubbish rot and smell more than normal. The rain has then seeped through to the holding ponds where it is sitting and of course smelling.
