Flip Out leaps to new heights in Canberra

One of Canberra’s most loved kids attractions is set to return to the nation’s capital this month in an expanded form that includes a real ninja warrior course among a range of adventures under one enormous roof.

A trampoline arena and playground that has franchises all over the country, Flip Out was first brought to the capital in 2014, with locations in Hume and Mitchell.

The former Canberra Flip Out owners closed their Flip Out operations in 2019 and 2020 but have now partnered with Nick Vasiliou and his wife Christina, who decided to re-open Flip Out in an expanded format in one new location at Majura Park.

A date for the grand opening is yet to be revealed but the operators are confident it will be this month.

“The hype is already here and we can’t wait to open,” Nick says.

Nick has been in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years, having his own arcade company Happy Days Amusements since the 80s. He wants to make the new Flip Out the biggest adventure park that Canberra’s ever seen.

The two previous Flip Out trampoline parks were located in the back of warehouses in industrial areas, which Nick says were not as welcoming for kids to go to and often hard to find, so this time they decided to create a bigger and better adventure park in a more convenient location, for kids and their families from all around Canberra to enjoy.

“Majura Park is a central location, and in my opinion has the best shopping precinct as it targets north and south Canberra with easy accessibility for all and it’s hard to miss as it gains lots of traction,” Nick says.

Located on 2000 sqm, next to Majura Park McDonald’s, the Australian flagship adventure park is set to open in three weeks and aims to cater to all ages with plenty to offer.

Flip Out will feature a large Ninja Warrior course in the centre of the adventure park, with ninja classes available, as well as a sectioned-off area called ‘interactive assault’, a more technical Ninja Warrior course.

Younger kids will enjoy the junior arena of trampolines, with a soft play area featuring mirror mazes and ropes courses.

There will also be climbing walls and giant Rubik cubes.

Trampolines will still be a part of Flip Out, while an apparatus called ‘the volcano’ will consist of a ramp where participants will get to run up and come down a slide.

An Olympic-sized main arena will include trampolines where people of all ages can jump in on the action.

Flip Out will also be aiming towards getting school groups in for excursions and offering activities targeted towards kids with disabilities.

“We are trying to tick all the boxes for every possible age group and have something to offer for all,” Nick says.

“It’s an open spectrum, so we want to create something for everyone.

“Physical activity is extremely important, we want kids to come along and be active while having fun.”

For older crowds the adventure park will be introducing a new trampoline activity called Flip Fit.

“It will have instructors so that adults can come and do trampolining and strength building, with a trainer to get them in to do stretching and all sorts of physical activity,” Nick says.

As well as all the interactive features of Flip Out, there will be a series of arcade games and party rooms available for hire.

“We are aiming to be Canberra’s ultimate birthday party destination, that is our target,” Nick says.

He adds that as a parent, he’s been to many kid’s birthday parties and knows what he wants and what to expect when attending party venues.

“When you go to a kids birthday party, you need to have good coffee and really good food,” he says.

Barista-made coffee, drinks, slushies, chips, ice cream and hot food will be on offer with a seated area for parents to relax and unwind as their kids play.

“We have been given the provision of an outdoor sitting area, so you can go outside, get away from the noise and sit down and enjoy the peace and quiet while the kids are inside running amok,” Nick says.
