Canberra music fans have been left shattered with two big acts cancelling shows – one at the last minute.
Midnight Oil fans were already drenched as they waited at Stage 88 in Parkes for the band’s ‘RESIST World Tour’ last night (19 April), only to be told the show wouldn’t go on.
“For three hours we stood in the teeming rain,” one show-goer said.
“At 8:15 pm, they came out and said ‘please stay with us, the show will go on’, and then at 9 pm they said they had made the decision, in accordance with local safety guidelines, they had to cancel.”
Another fan took to social media, writing, “are you serious!!! Two hours in the pouring rain, then the rain slows down and you cancel the gig!!!”
Supporting acts Emily Wurramara and Jack River managed to perform.
“Thank you Ngunnawal country for having me,” Ms Wurramara posted to Facebook.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, Midnight Oil posted at 9:11 pm that ticket holders would be contacted with more information regarding their refunds “as soon as possible”.
“The band is profoundly disappointed and will endeavour to make this up to their ACT fans around the end of the RESIST World Tour later this year.”

Tomorrow night’s (Thursday 21 April) Crowded House ‘Australian Dreamers Are Waiting’ show in Canberra has also been postponed after frontman Neil Finn tested positive to COVID-19.
“In these very difficult conditions for touring, we were staying in our bubble and observing very strict protocols but somehow the virus still slipped through,” he said in a statement on the band’s Facebook page.
“I am relieved to be only experiencing mild symptoms at this stage and grateful for the protection that my triple boosted vaccination is providing.
“I am so sorry to disappoint our fans this coming week, but rest assured we will be back to make good.”
Crowded House’s shows in Hobart, Geelong and the Hunter Valley have also been affected.
Ticketholders have been asked to keep their tickets as “original purchases will be valid for the new dates without the need for exchange”.
