Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Kevin and Giles are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Dog of the Week: Kevin

Just by looking at his smile, you can tell Kevin is a classic staffy terrier cross. He has all the physical attributes, too: huge grin from ear to ear, stocky, muscular body and the waggiest tale.

He’s five years old and, again, typical of a staffy, loves people and will want to be by your side and around you at home. While a clever boy, Kevin didn’t receive much training as a puppy so even though he’s friendly and fun, he could use some directions.

His perfect owner would have the capacity to go for daily walks and find an off-leash area where he can play fetch and get the needle all the way up to turbo speed while playing.

Right now he needs to be the only dog in the home. A household with humans, including older children, would be fantastic, and Kevin would quickly become a valued family member.

Guinea Pig of the Week: Giles

This handsome little guy is Giles, an Abyssinian Guinea Pig who’s desperate for a family of both people and other guinea pigs to call his own.

He’s a bit shy, but honestly, almost every animal adopted from a shelter is going to take some time to get comfortable. When Giles gets used to you, he’ll be pretty charming, following you around and truly being a wonderful pet.

Guinea pig owners will already know these critters are fun and easy to tame and can be quite chatty, which is one of the cutest sounds you’ll hear.

He’ll be great with a family and young children too (again, once he’s settled), and best of all, if you already have older guinea pigs, Giles here would be the happiest little guy, you’ll see!

Come and visit Giles – we also have other smaller pets available right now, including other guinea pigs, birds and rabbits, all requiring love … and an indoor hutch to occupy.

Pawnotes: Last week’s Cat of the Week, Mr King, was adopted, so hooray! We have quite a few larger breed dogs right now for adoption, all with lovely natures and their own quirks.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!

How about you ‘experts’ keep your trash talk to yourselves and let the RSPCA get on with the job?

Notice how most dumped dogs are cross bred staffies. I do not know why people breed these type of dogs? Too unpredictable with small children around.

They breed them because they are an extension of their bogan/macho personas.
It’s not the dogs that should be de-sexed.

Staffies are about the only bull terrier breed that don’t seem to be unpredictable or aggressive. In my experience anyway. Standard bull terriers (the pointy nosed ones) and American pitbulls should all be shot though.
