Mt Stromlo Observatory will be open to the public during its Annual Open Day this Sunday 4th December 2011 10am to 4pm. Entry to the event is free.
Mt Stromlo Observatory is the research headquarters for the Australian National University Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics. It’s home to the country’s leading research in optical and infrared astronomy and astrophysics. The Research School celebrates 100 years of observing in 2011.

74” Dome open to view the devastating effects of the 2003 Canberra bush fires (it is so sad in there).
And come back at 8.00pm for star gazing – new moon so it should be reasonable “seeing”.
