Two women have avoided injury after the Giralang home they were sleeping in was set on fire.
Police are now investigating, releasing an image of a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspected attacker.
It’s believed a person arrived at the Gidjili Place property between 12 am and 1:15 am on Friday (October 13) in a green Ford Mondeo, which has the NSW registration EUB 48T.
The person then walked down the driveway with a red jerry can and set the property alight, before they left on foot.
ACT Fire and Rescue attended the home and extinguished the fire, but not before it damaged the front and rear guttering of the house as well as its eaves.
The green Ford Mondeo was left at the scene and seized by police, with the public called upon to help identify the offender who may have disposed of the large red can or other evidence nearby.
Police want to speak to residents in the nearby area who may have CCTV, drivers in the area at the time with dashcam footage, or anyone who may have information about the green Mondeo or who was driving it at the time.
Giralang residents have also been asked to check bins and their properties for the red can or other evidence that may have been left behind by the offender.
Anyone with information that could assist police has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference 7563568. Information can be provided anonymously.
