Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Belle the greyhound and a whole lotta roosters are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Dog of the Week: Belle

The adorable Belle is one of our favourites. She spends most of her days lying around in our marketing office, taking things super easy and checking up on what we’re all doing every now and again.

Like most greyhounds, Belle is one of the best canine pets you can own. They are lazy and super relaxed, cooler than the other side of the pillow and loyal as can be.

A common misconception is that dogs like Belle need vigorous exercise, but that’s not true. Belle loves a pat, responds to treats, and basically wants to be wherever you are. She’s a dog who needs a home, not a shelter.

Come and visit Belle to gain a true sidekick, a real canine companion. She’s a real sweetheart. In her perfect home, she’d get to live with your family and the dog you already have, as she really doesn’t like being alone. Visit Belle today!

Roosters of the week: All of them (please, take them all!)

The Roosters

You may have read about our roosters in previous publications as they currently occupy the coups located directly outside of the RSPCA ACT marketing office. We have about 17 of them at this moment. Seven. Teen.

The issue has gone way past being unable to hear people on the phone; we don’t even hear the phone ring anymore.

On a serious note, we are at capacity with roosters and the truth is they deserve a better life.

ACT law does allow roosters to live in suburban backyards, but that depends on your neighbours. Springing a ‘surprise’ new rooster on your neighbour could start a fight faster than a game of Monopoly.

On a working property, one rooster for every 10 hens or thereabouts will protect his flock, stop quarrels, and even find them food. If the ratio of roosters to hens gets too low, things get problematic. Ironically, this is the problem at the RSPCA ACT. The ratio of roosters to marketing staff is way too low. Do you know someone who can adopt a rooster?

Pawnote: Last week’s dog of the week, Sadie the Kelpie, has been adopted! Again, we’d like to thank the ACT animal-loving community for your amazing support.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
