A man has been remanded in custody after he was accused of trying to kill his alleged victim while brandishing a knife during a fight in central Canberra last month.
Jay Lindsay Curtis-Hodge, 39, was handed charges of attempted murder and assault over the alleged incident when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday (11 April).
ACT Policing said he allegedly got into a fight with another man at a home in Turner around 9:40 pm on 25 March.
It is alleged Curtis-Hodge assaulted the other man, then brandished a kitchen knife and tried to stab him while also threatening to kill him before fleeing the scene on foot.
The other man allegedly suffered a stab wound to his hand while he tried to defend himself, as well as soft tissue injuries to his face and head.
Police began an investigation and made multiple attempts to find Curtis-Hodge before arresting him at a home in Oaks Estate on Wednesday (10 April).
His lawyer, Alyssa Ellwood from the Aboriginal Legal Service, said he would not apply for bail when he faced the court the next day, while prosecutor Claire Daly said the matter was not family violence-related.
Magistrate Alexandra Burt remanded him in custody to next face court on 2 May.
