An alleged serial thief is accused of targetting mostly elderly shoppers in southern Canberra before stealing their belongings.
ACT Policing allege the woman waited until her victims were distracted while shopping at supermarkets in the Tuggeranong region before she stole their wallets or handbags over a period from February to April 2024.
She also allegedly used stolen credit and debit cards to make hundreds of dollars worth of fraudulent transactions.
Police began an investigation and, after reviewing closed-circuit television footage, allegedly identified a 50-year-old woman from Gordon as the culprit.
She was arrested at her home this week and charged with seven counts of minor theft, as well as single counts of theft and obtaining property by deception.
The woman was scheduled to face ACT Magistrates Court.
