Seven years on and Mookie Burger is still bunbelievable!

Canberra’s favourite fusion burger joint is on the cusp of celebrating seven years of serving up scrumptious Japanese-infused burgers, fried chicken and loaded fries.

Mookie Burger continues to go from strength to strength with a menu that is dynamic, experimental and fun while retaining its crowd favourites. There is no better time to visit and see why they are going the distance!

What has kept Mookie flourishing in the fickleness of our food industry? Owner Jaye says that it is their passion for food and their close relationships with the customers.

“It is so good to see customers get fed well with our burgers and gelato! And we are really big on flavours! Real food, freshly made.”

Mookie connects with local producers to source their meat and vegetables.

Their menu is fun and varied and burgeoning with choice. Brimming with burgers, hot wings, loaded fries, fusion sides and a stable of shakes, it is worthwhile going with a group of friends so you can order a slather of items to share.

And there are so many burger options.

Little Tokyo fills its burger bun with a salty/sweet yakitori marinated chicken, kewpie slaw, shallots and an exotic creamy sesame sauce.

Another burger full of fusion deliciousness is Mr Miyagi, which has beautifully balanced mouthfuls of Char Siu Pork Belly, sesame slaw, sweet and spicy pickles, pork crackling, and kewpie mayo. Umami meets every other flavour profile.

Jaye tells me that their two most popular burgers are the Mookie burger and the crispy chicken. The Mookie is a classic cheeseburger twisted with black garlic aioli and Portuguese jam, while the crispy chicken pairs succulent Southern fried chicken with Kewpie slaw and chilli mayo.

Try the hot wings, known for being packed with a depth of flavour that rises above each of the three levels of increasing heat you can choose to have.

And who can resist loaded fries?

Mookie’s My Mexican Cousin is crunchy fries heaped up with American cheese sauce, guacamole and chives. The fresh guacamole is a fresh, lush contrast to the warm, melty cheese sauce.

The All-Star Wagyu fries pile luxurious wagyu beef, bacon, shallots, cheese sauce, and Mookie’s special sauce on their crunchy fries.

I haven’t seen a burger joint doing a twist on a Turkish snack pack before, but Mookie does. They pack pulled lamb, Tzatziki and warm cheese sauce over delicious fries.

Washing it all down, there are soft and hard drinks available, but as someone who drinks iced lattes through all seasons, Mookie’s unique shakes menu has me intrigued: butterscotch, cookies and cream, matcha green tea, red velvet (yum!), Double Nutt with Nutella and peanut butter, yes, please!

Not one to rest on his laurels, Jaye explains some brand-new dishes have arrived on the menu.

“We’ve got a lamb burger, a vegetarian halloumi burger and a vegan potato rosti burger! We make our patties in-house. We also have some new exciting sides – pork croquettes, calamari rings, Gochujan Korean fried chicken and rice cakes!”

If you have room, Mookie serves up fresh gelato that changes regularly and frozen custard that you can choose to have transformed into concrete.

Mookie is located at 13B Anketell Street, in South.Point Mall Tuggeranong. The Point is a redevelopment of the former courtyard area between the entrances of Target and The Good Guys.
