A man has fronted court over alleged involvement in a home invasion that left three people in hospital.
ACT Policing said that about 5:20 am on 3 August, two men allegedly broke into a residence in Stirling and assaulted the three occupants.
“During the altercation, it is alleged the men struck the occupants on the head multiple times with various objects including a picture frame, and used a taser-like device on one of the residents,” police said.
“All three victims were transported to hospital with serious injuries as a result of the assault.”
Following an extensive investigation, police located one of the men they believe to have participated in the assault, in a black BMW in Kambah on Thursday (22 August).
When police attempted a traffic stop on the BMW, it failed to stop and took off.
A short time later, the BMW and a white Volkswagen Golf were again observed at another location in Kambah, where two men – one being the 34-year-old – were seen getting into the Golf.
“Police directed the Volkswagen to stop, but it failed to do so. Due to the risk to the community, a pursuit was not commenced,” police said.
Police said the 34-year-old was seen at a bus stop in Curtin about 4:30 pm on Thursday. The man attempted to flee on foot but the police found him a short distance away and took him into custody.
He has been charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of joint commission assault occasioning actual bodily harm, joint commission causing grievous bodily harm, going equipped for theft, breach of bail, failing to stop for police, and driving without a licence.
He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday (23 August) over his alleged involvement in the home invasion.
Inquiries relating to the second man responsible for the Stirling assault and the driver of the Golf are continuing.
