Police allege a man coordinated the stabbing of an inmate in Goulburn’s jail over a radio chat website, before the attacker carried it out for money.
The bikie-busting Raptor Squad arrested two men over the alleged plot and assault on Tuesday (17 December).
NSW Police officers had been called to one of the facilities at the Goulburn Correctional Complex at around 9:30 am on 17 February 2024 over reports of an assault.
They were told two inmates had allegedly been involved in an altercation before staff intervened.
While a 45-year-old inmate allegedly received a superficial injury to his neck during the incident, he did not require any further treatment.
The matter was referred to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, who established Strike Force Coded to investigate.
After extensive inquiries, the strike force’s detectives went to a correctional centre in Goulburn on Tuesday and charged two men, aged 28 and 44.
“Police will allege in court the older man used an FM Radio website chat function to communicate his instructions to coordinate the stabbing, which the younger man carried out for money,” a police spokesperson said.
The 28-year-old was charged with using an offensive weapon, participating in a criminal group, assault and affray.
The 44-year-old was charged with recruiting another person to assist in carrying out criminal activity, directing a criminal group, assault and affray.
Both were remanded in custody until their matters return to court next year.
The younger man is scheduled to appear in Goulburn Local Court on 24 February and the older man is supposed to face the Downing Centre Local Court on 27 February.
