Joy Burch is celebrating another win for the ACT’s kids and chalking it up to her education department:
ACT students continue to be among the highest performing in the country, the 2012 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy National Report released today shows.
ACT Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch welcomed the results, which show the mean scores of ACT students were top or equal top across 16 of the 20 areas tested.
“Our students continue to excel in reading as the highest performing jurisdiction in Australia, a position held every year since 2008 and significantly ahead of the national mean,” Ms Burch said.
“We have ranked first or equal first in grammar and punctuation and numeracy across all year levels since 2009. ACT mean scores for years 5, 7 and 9 students in writing were equal highest in the country.”
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy was first introduced in 2008 and tests student achievement across reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
