Burnouts in front of the cops never end well

An 18-year-old Wanniassa man had his vehicle seized and faces a serious drink-drive charge after an incident in Tuggeranong on Saturday night (December 29).

Around 10.34pm, ACT Policing General Duties officers were on a routine patrol when they witnessed a silver Holden Statesman sedan performing a sustained burnout at the 7-Eleven petrol station at the Wanniassa shops.

When police approached the vehicle, the driver jumped from the car and ran. A short time later police apprehended the driver, who was then given a roadside screening test. The test returned a positive result.

The driver was taken into custody and later returned a Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol (PCA) reading of 0.130. As the holder of a probationary driver’s licence, he was subject to a zero alcohol content.

The driver’s licence was immediately suspended and he will be summonsed to face court at a later date. His car also was seized by police and will be impounded for 90 days.

Under section 5 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, police may seize vehicles for offences of street racing, speed trials, burnouts and menacing driving. Vehicles can be seized for up to 90 days for a first offence and may be seized and forfeited to the Territory for a second offence if so ordered by the court.

I’d pay money to be able to witness this car being crushed- I know it’s not on the cards as yet, but this could be an avenue of revenue raising I’d be happy to assist with. I wonder how many tickets the Govt could sell to an event of this kind?

I’d buy a season ticket. IT’d be a great way to spend an hour an Saturday arvo.

Get all the impounded cars, whack in a basic roll cage, sell tickets for a drive in one, and let them loose on each other. Drive it ’till you destroy it.

A PROVISIONAL license is also known as your p-plates. Aka a red license

A PROBATIONARY license is what you’re issued after you’ve already lost your license. Aka a blue license.

No, there is a difference.

Provisional Licences
Provisional licences (red in colour) are issued for a period of 3 years following the successful completion of a practical driving or riding test. The minimum age for acquiring a Provisional licence 17 years. If you pass the practical assessment in an Automatic vehicle then your licence will be endorsed with an ‘A’ condition, allowing you to drive automatic vehicles only for the first 12 months of your Provisional licence. All holders of a Provisional licence are subject to a blood or breath alcohol concentration of zero.

Probationary Licences
Probationary Licences (blue in colour) are issued to drivers or riders returning to driving after a court-imposed cancellation. The licensee will be required to hold a Probationary licence for 12 months before progressing to the previous licence type held. Holders of a Probationary licence are subject to a blood or breath alcohol concentration of zero. If 2 or more demerit points are incurred by the licensee the Probationary licence will be cancelled.
