The Canberra Times has this article on the removal of wild Brumbies from Kosciuszko National Park so that they don’t cuase accidents for motorists. No mention is made of how many accidents have occurred so far though. Still I’d prefer to see them moved on than sent to the knackers.

Does it matter how many accidents have happened so far?

What if NPWS does nothing. And an accident then does occur killing a few people. Can you imagine the carage of 100km/h car versus horse?

Imagine the reaction, the uproar would be “NPWS did nothing, they knew the horses stray onto the road, they killed little Billy and his sister”.

I’ve seen brumbies around that region heaps of times, including running across the highway. You only have to drive down the road up past the Tantangara Dam turnoff and on towards Tumut to see all the horse poo on the roads to know they are active on the highway. Especially around the Long Plain Road turnoff.

Some sort of horse reduction strategy is a good thing.

Really? Wow. How do you think The Brumbies picked their name? The wild horses are up in the mountains in very big numbers. I’ll usually see a heap of them when I go fishing, they’re lovely…although also a little inbred (hence crazy) nowadays.

Please don’t use the name Carney & Rugby Union in the same sentence…sends a chill up my spine. Carney is rugby league through & through.

well I did once hit a tree after swerving to avoid george gregan on a road run a few years back……

Have there actually been any brumby related traffic accidents? I didn’t even know we had brumbies!
