ANU’s new Club Lime is sparkling with possibilities

Pretty much everything is sparkling at the ANU’s new Club Lime, from the swimming pools to the wraparound trees on the university campus, framing the array of state of the art fitness equipment. But while the atmosphere is relaxing, the pace can be as tough as you want it to be.

A 25m lap pool and a smaller program pool accommodate lap swimmers and there are family-friendly change rooms that make learn-to-swim lessons and disabled access easy. A spa, dry sauna, steam room and secure lockers complete the set-up.

Upstairs, the array of glistening machines are filled with people sweating their way through weights, cycling and leg press routines. A large square section is devoted to functional fitness, based around high-intensity interval training that helps to boost metabolic rates and burn fat.

The gym also features brand-new, state-of-the-art equipment.

There’s room for group fitness, cardio, and plenty of personal attention and staff aim to provide a motivating and non-intimidating environment.

Open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, Club Lime is at the newly opened Kambri precinct at the ANU and is the second platinum level facility in the group. It’s a good fit for the precinct development, joining restaurants and food outlets, a bookshop and travel services. While many members will be university students and staff, the club is open to all membership applications.

The Kambri facility is part of a larger string of clubs owned by the Konstantinou family’s Viva Leisure Group, who are based here in Canberra. There are 24 operational clubs within the portfolio and early projections are that they’ll reach 40 within the year, radiating out from their local base.

Most clubs are within the ACT but some new clubs are also opening in regional NSW. The first club opened in January 2004, and the Club Lime network now has more than 46,000 members, with a philosophy centring around quality, value for money and a sense of community.
