Anybody know a good lawn mower mechanic?

By mashmash - 31 March 2011 19

I have a victa with a briggs & stratton engine, pretty sure I have burned the valve. (2 stroke fuel in a 4 stroke engine, oops.)

I am wondering if anybody knows a good mechanic who works out of their garage? Figured I’d put the question out there before going to one of the big shops.

Thanks!

I found the lawnmower repair place at the old petrol station at Scullin shops to be good. They seem to have a thing for French cars as well.

I believe this web site is great at fixing anything step by step.

No kidding, try Youtube! Mr Bad Seed had something or other go wrong with the lawn mower the other day and he looked it up on Youtube and yes, someone had a tutorial on how to fix that something or other and bingo, job done!

Nothing worse than having a chicken stuck in your spark plug. Kills the engine everytime.

Yeh, like Thumper says, don’t put a chicken in your lawn mower either. May have been a bit vague about that bit first time.

Bugger. I thought I had a chance to display the renowned LSWCHP wit, but no, too late. Maybe next time someone has a chook in their combustion chamber.

Do not use Canberra Mower Service Belconnen, kept my mower for over 2 months for a basic service, charged me $280 for it, it broke down straight after getting it home. Took it back in for repairs they kept it another month, it broke down straight after geting it home.

I avoid them also. I dropped a mower in for a service – 220 dollars later I took it home gobsmacked at the amount. A week or so later i went to use it and it wouldnt start. I took it back and they had the hide to charge me to look at my non-starting mower. Never again. They also annoyingly shifted the starter rope/handle up onto the handle for some bizarre reason.

There’s a guy who repairs lawn mowers and bikes in Bradfield Street, Downer. Just near the bustop – he usually has a sign up.

why not just do it yourself? would be a little bit of fun, and you’d learn something about engines. imho it would be a great weekend project

I think google/youtube would help.

Not sure which side of town you’re on, but i took mine to Tuggeranong Mowers the other week. Dropped it off in the morning and got it back by lunchtime like it was brand new. Works out of his garage at home in Kambah. 6296 3036

there’s a small business mower fixer in Wanniassa just near the corner of Fincham Street and Sternberg Cres. He does a few local ones.

Two-stroke engine in a four-stroke won’t damage the engine, but the other way around could be disasterous. As stated, check the plug isnt fouled and clean out the two-stroke fuel.

That aside there used to be a great small motor mechanic at Scullin shops. Not sure if he is still operating though.

Check the spark plug is not fowled because of the oil in the 2 stroke, and also that the exhaust is not obstructed by soot from the oil from the two stroke.
