What makes excellent dance classes?

Not sure what you are looking for in a dance class? We’ve got a few ideas that may help you narrow your search:

  • Offers the dance style you or your child wants to learn. The first decision you or your child has to make is this: which dance style do I want to learn? With fast-paced hip-hop, flowing contemporary, strict ballet, balanced jazz, entertaining tap, and stunning ballroom, there is so much to choose from.
  • Cater to you or your child’s age group. Make sure the dance school you are considering caters to the correct age group. Some dance classes are adults or kids only, and others allow mums, dads, and bubs to have fun together.
  • Friendly and experienced teachers. A dance class should make you feel confident and inspired – not lousy and judged. The best dance classes hire teachers that bring out the best in their students.
  • Well priced. Price is always important, so try comparing a few dance classes to get a feel for the market.

What about Vieira Dance School of Excellence?? They cater to all ages from toddlers to teens to adults and the owner is an exceptional teacher in Canberra having trained as a Ballet dancer in England and Germany as well as dancing with Circus Krone!!
I don’t think that this article has been properly researched if researched at all? There are many dance studios in Canberra with very talented teachers who have trained students that have gone on to have professional dance careers. Quite disappointing that none of those studios has had a mention.

Good advice for teenage and children wanting to learn. As far as adults go, check the style of music that you will dance to matches your likes and that there is a welcoming student base that isn’t cliquey. I’ve found Audacity Dance at the Belconnen Arts Centre to be my cup of tea with modern music, good and friendly bunch of adults (18 and up with average late 30s and 40s) and excellent teachers.
