I wonder what the significance of him having to report to police 3 times a week is. Is it just to prevent him getting more than two days away if he decides to skip town or go into hiding?

Yeah – it ensures he can only get as far as Perth before they notice he’s done a runner.

Hmmm maybe he is not being charged with Murder or Manslaughter because the victim did not die due to his injuries. The coroners report came back which clearly states this.

Come off it and lower your expectations.

Manslaughter is the new murder and assault is the new manslaughter.

Yes murderers can get bail, believe or not, the person may be charged with murder, then it has to be proven in court

No, we’re all happy. Happy, happy, happy! Thank you judiciary for saving us all from violent rednecks!

He bashed him. He died as a direct consequence of his bashing; that’s murder.

He possibly didn’t mean to kill him, just bash him. Why is the charge not manslaughter?

$2,000 surety sounds pretty low for such a violent crime. Surely it should be more along the lines of $20K?

+1. Also what is the spread of times he has to report (i.e. is it every second day or just 3 times at his convenience)?

I know our courts wouldn’t allow a loophole that’d let Milicevic to report at 9am, 12pm and 4pm on the same day then be gone for a week, could they? Please tell me it couldn’t be so…

Lol. No. It would be something like reporting three days a week (eg Mon, Wed, Fri) between 8a – 8p for example.

Thank God! (PC disclaimer: or any other non-specific deity or deities relevant to your individual believe system – I don’t judge)

I imagine that a well trained and professional magistrate or judge would not be putting their reputation on the line. They would have heard all the evidence and made a judgement about the likelihood of flight or re-offense. What these professionals don’t need is a whole lot of rednecks that have watched too many Westerns about lynch mobs and punitive sentences.

I imagine that a well-trained and leftist professional magistrate or judge would not be worried about public criticism in the ACT. They would have heard all the evidence and made an ill-informed judgement about the likelihood of flight or re-offense for this clearly violent member of the community. What these professionals do need is a whole lot of criticism from ordinary members of the community who are concerned about judicial leniency.

Don’t people get charged with murder these days?

Yeah, usually when they commit the act of murder.

We’re in safe hands, alright. You can tell by the general morale of the police and prosecution.

I doubt that Judge Dread would make them happy.

I wonder if Milecevic is related to the family who were murdered in Richardson in 1984? Though I imagine that’s a pretty common name in certain parts of the world.

Thank God we don’t elect our law enforcement officers and judiciary!
