BANFF Mountain Film Festival

Wednesday 2 May through to Saturday 5 May, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour again drops into the National Film and Sound Archives in Canberra.

Showcasing over 2.5 hours of nail-biting, awe-inducing, blood-pumping and emotionally-uplifting majesty, this world tour edition line-up arrives by way of the adventure nerve centre that is the mountain town of Banff in Canada.

As the community with the second highest elevation in Canada after Lake Louise, the small town of Banff is home to some 8,000 people, not to mention one of the most revered adventure film festivals in the world.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival takes place every November as more than 300 of the world’s best entries across categories including mountain sport, culture, environment, adventure and exploration are screened to much fanfare. Following the festival, award-winning inclusions and audience favourites are compiled to create a riveting and rambunctious roadshow which then tours the globe taking in 390 communities across 35 countries as part of the festival’s official world tour.

This year’s selection both celebrates the triumphs and contemplates the struggles of some of the most celebrated contemporary skiers, paddlers, snowboarders, mountaineers, mountain bikers, explorers and adventure film-makers.

Prepare to be blown away by the grandeur of mother nature and swept up in the stories of those who dare to test themselves against her. There will be thrills, there be spills, and there will be some truly breath-taking views as adrenaline junkies across the globe submit themselves to mother nature’s might.

The BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour enthrals and excites with the spirit of adventure and gives audiences the world over the chance to be invigorated by human endeavour.

There will be screenings across four nights: Wednesday – Saturday; 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. There will also be one matinee screening on Saturday afternoon from 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm.

At the time of writing, Friday night’s session has already sold out. However, there are still tickets available for Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Saturday night, along with Saturday afternoon.
