Former Deputy NSW Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro has been charged with assault and malicious damage over a clash with a cameraman in Manly.

The assault allegedly took place between Mr Barilaro and a cameraman in Manly at about 7:30 pm on Saturday, 23 July. In the video, Mr Barilaro can be seen pushing the cameraman before walking away and waiting at traffic lights to cross the road.

After the video emerged on social media, the former Deputy Premier went on 2GB saying he had been “intruded on and harassed” since his controversial appointment to a $500,000-a-year trade commissioner post in New York became the subject of a parliamentary inquiry.

Mr Barilaro has since stood down from the salaried position.

He is expected to appear in Manly Local Court on 12 October.
