Barton Highway closed due to fatality

By Barcham - 23 July 2013 17

An accident near the ACT-New South Wales border has claimed the life of a motorcyclist, reports ABC News.

Police say a motorcycle and light truck collided near the intersection with Boundary Lane just before 10:00am.

The motorcyclist died at the scene but the truck driver was not hurt.

The Barton Highway is closed in both directions.

Investigations into the collision are continuing and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

I rode my Motorbike into work this morning using the barton highway. 6am,wet roads and doing the speed limit yet I still had cars flying past me. Seriously what is wrong with people?

+1

People do not drive to the conditions of the road, and their only concern in life once they get behind that wheel of a morning is to get a carpark.

Regardless of fault (and none has been determined, and Im not suggesting that this contributed to the accident either) that truck driver is going to have to live with this for the rest of his life. Easing off on the accelerator, a bit more concentration on the road could save people from a lifetime of haunted memories, and possibly save the life of someone’s son.daughter/sibling/mother/father. Its piss poor that we still need people dying here and the message doesn’t get through.

When is the duplication going to happen – ever?

too far away from Sydney to be in the minds of the decision makers who allocate funding.

the road is no better than a goat track and is a disgrace. the volume of traffic justifies duplication, but passing lanes seem to be a fad which obviously don’t help.

The road is actually top notch quality for a 2 lane country highway. Wide verges, no off camber corners, no tightening radius corners and plenty of overtaking lanes for a stretch that is less than 30km long.

Its the attitude of people that make it dangerous. Slow drivers and fast drivers, the slow drivers speed up in overtaking lanes so people cant get past them & then slow back down when they are finished, fast drivers take stupid risk. Canberra drivers drive with their heads up their buts to either extreme.

Yep a dual carraige way will help but until you change driver attitude then not much is going to change.

So axiomatic I don’t know why they bothered to include it. Whenever I see a reckless truck driver or 4WD driver, I’m always comforted by the fact that whoever they hit is gonna come off second best. Truly natural selection in reverse.

you have inside information indicating that it was the truck driver at fault? i feel bad for the family of the poor man who died but there is no shortage of reckless motorcyclists on the roads. i wouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Like the 4WD that t-boned me – hardly a scratch on the bullbar, but my leg was a pate sandwich between two pieces of metal – 2000kg SUV and 270kg (written-off) cruiser.

My commiserations to all the loved ones of the motorcyclist.

Well no surprises there, fair to say he wouldn’t had a scratch on him..

We passed this accident soon after it happened on our way to Canberra this morning. Many people had stopped to assist, but it looked bad for the motorcyclist. He was some distance from the bike, and it looked like he may have been thrown against a fence post. I’m sending loving thoughts to the poor family missing their son/father/brother….
