Can anyone recommend cheap or free parking areas in the Belconnen area?

Close to the mall would be good.

Thanks for the comments. Riding a bike is not always possible. Especially if you are handicapped.

If you’re handicapped you can park in the plentiful marked parking spaces.

Looking to re-open this thread – now that the John Knight parking has been restricted, where can one park within two kms Belconnen centre for no charge ? In addition to the locations already mentioned.

@ nutter I would like to point that most of the “free” carparks you suggest are “free” for a reason #1 funeral home – is for grieving people to park to attend funerals #2 bodyworks is for customers of the gym and surrounding business #3 jammo pool is for customers of pool (yes granted it’s only in summer season which we’re coming into) #4 main drag of emu rigde is for the people who live there and #5 john knight is for the people who are use the park or the lake and it’s the one that pisses me off the most I regularly use that carpark to take the kiddies down for a play or to walk the lake myself and can never get a space as it’s full of “all day” parkers.

PAY the small fee to park your car or car pool even cheaper or bus it, leave the “free” carparks alone for the grieving, paying customers, residents and park users

A guy I work with parks down near the Jetty…but I don’t know if it’s sign posted so maybe check it out? Not too far from the mall.

There’s plenty available as long as you get to work before eight. Often well before. There’s some up by the upper funeral home (between them and the parks people), in the little off street carpark near bodyworks gym and the car lots, there’s about three spots in the road up to the markets from Benjamin Way, John Knight is free, Jammo pool is free, as is the main drag through Emu Ridge.

In theory behind the bowling alley and Bunnings as well (both are signposted but I don’t think they’re patrolled – if you park there let me know if you get a ticket!).

The carpark next to Good Guys is the cheapest at around $4.50 (last time I parked there anyway).

You can of course park your bike almost anywhere and the new bus station (which will apparently open in the next 4 days if you believe the Westfield hype and the 25 odd blokes I saw there at 1930 last Friday!) will drop you at the front entrance. You can wait in the very fancy looking bus lounge for your return leg.

Wait, you can still park somewhere in Belconnen? That’s clearly an oversight…

Well the mall has free parking up to 3 hours. Close is a relative term but you could shank it from John Knight park. This area is free, all day. Or just pretend you’re a tradie and park in the middle of Benjamin Way, like the rest of them.

Yeah, the main dirt carpark is free. Plus the very small dirt carpark just across the road.

Ride a bike, thats free…

Most of the parking in Belco is $6-$8 a day. Isnt that cheap !?

All you tight arses constantly asking where free parking is.. geez, if you want free parking go work for Defence. Tons of free parking at Campbell Park and Duntroon… and out at Bungendore.

(PS I bus it to work, I’d rather sit on a bus than pay $12 a day to park my car somewhere, besides my current 10 ride bus pass has lasted almost a month. So many FREE bus trips)

Isn’t the big dirt space between Lathlain Street and Emu Bank currently free parking while the mall is being expanded?
