Andrew Barr is very excited by booming tourism numbers:

The number of people visiting the ACT for a holiday increased by 50 per cent in the March quarter of this year, coinciding with a big program of events in Canberra’s Centenary.

And in the year ending March 2013, domestic overnight visitors contributed $1.18 billion to the Territory economy, with more than 2 million people visiting the Territory.

According to the latest National Visitor Survey (NVS) issued by Tourism Research Australia, domestic overnight visitation to the ACT for holiday/leisure purposes increased by 53.2 per cent in the March quarter of 2013 compared to the same period last year. The number of people coming to Canberra to visit friends and relatives also increased, up by 30.0 per cent in the March quarter.
