Chief Minister supports statute of limitations for bushfire victims.

By johnboy - 21 September 2005 2

ABC Online has the happy news that the Chief Minister is supporting Liberal moves to extend the statute of limitations for bushfire victims to sue the government.

This is not, however, an admission of guilt.

“The fact that the Government will support an extension of the statute of limitations should in no way be taken as a suggestion that I believe for one minute that any action initiated, particularly if it’s against the ACT Government, will be successful”

It makes it hard to be a critic when you agree with the government.

I think Mr Stanhope has done the right thing by the community with this issue. In fact I’m sure he was reticent to do so but has realised that it is important that he be seen to be doing the right thing.
