With 10 market stalls starting at 9am today (Thursday 18 December), this festive hustle and bustle of activity on City Walk near Garema Place is another reason to be in Canberra’s CBD this December.
Everybody loves a good market, especially at Christmas. During the day come and support five of our local charities at the Christmas themed Markets on City Walk. These Charities and other businesses will be selling a range of gift and novelty items, beauty services and products, new and vintage clothing, musical instruments, home-made delights and handmade treasures. It’s the perfect opportunity to finish of your Christmas shopping or grab those stocking filler goodies, and participate in fun child-friendly activities and entertainment such as face painting.
As the sun sets the daytime markets will give way to night time food and fun, with a variety of street-eats, entertainment and things to buy. Expect to see gelato, coffee, roast pork rolls, souvlaki and Thai cuisine. A fantastic addition to the other night time Christmas festivities already occurring – the SIDS & Kids ACT Christmas Light Display and Flip Out in the City.
CEO of Canberra CBD Limited Jane Easthope says “On behalf of the City Centre commercial property owners, it is a delight that we can bring hundreds of thousands of people into the CBD for Christmas festivities. This is the first year of several where the world record lights will be complemented by markets, camels, trampolining, music and some of the best shopping and wining and dining in the capital region. We invite you to visit the bustling City Centre and together celebrate and spread the Christmas cheer.”
Starting on the 18th and running through till Christmas Eve, the Markets will run from 9am. At 4pm the charities depart and make way for other vendors at the night time Food Markets. The Markets will be open till 10pm.
Don’t miss out on seeing what goodies are on offer, or grabbing some tasty treats. The Christmas Markets are another reason to be in the City. Don’t forget to also check out the free Camel rides in Ainslie Place running till Sunday 21 December. There is a piano to play, roving entertainers and live music and of course Flip Out and the most lights in an LED display in the world till Christmas Eve. Flip Out is back on Boxing Day and the SIDS and Kids ACT Lights will be open on Christmas day through to New Year’s Eve.
